Goodreads Review — The Queen of Ieflaria by Effie Calvin

Mediocre fantasy, but make it queer. Princess from one kingdom makes the long journey to marry her childhood betrothed in another, to form an alliance and to bring her people’s magic to this land that is increasingly plagued by dragons. He dies before she gets there, and in this non-heterosexist world it is perfectly normal that she would then at least consider marrying the deceased’s sister instead. Magical and relational hijinx ensue. Won’t totally commit to not reading the sequel if I’m in the right mood, but I think I misunderstood the hype I’d heard about it and was expecting something where the worldbuilding and plot were a bit more sophisticated.
