Science fiction, I suppose, or maybe fantasy – anyway, kind of comic book-y in feel, and a world different from our own in that a small number of people have super powers, though this seems to be relatively new and not yet commonly known. Follows a not-very-good small-time super villain who robs banks, and a would-be hero who enjoys beating up muggers and drinking more than she should, neither of whom can remember anything longer ago than a couple of years. Just after their first near-encounter in their professional capacities, they run into and recognize each other as civilians at a support group for people with memory loss, have a moment, and begin to reluctantly work together. Fast moving and action packed. Fun at moments, but I just didn’t like it as much as I had hoped. A few significant premise- and plot-holes – I mean, if you could read people’s memories and erase them, you could surely come up with a less risky way to con your way into enough riches to retire to the Caribbean than hand-over-your-cash bank stick-ups, right? Shallow and uncritical portrayal of policing. And…yeah, I could overlook both of those things and lots more if the story had drawn me in, but it didn’t really.
