Science fiction, of the political-intrigue-in-an-interplanetary-empire variety, with a quite sweet and well-done romance at the centre of it. The worldbuilding is nothing special (though I appreciate how gender and sexuality work in this universe) and I suspect a certain kind of genre snob (thank goodness I am not such a person!) might be inclined to harrumph that it is science fictional in setting but not particularly in story. But I really enjoyed the viewpoint characters, two adorable disasters with vastly different personalities and a great gift for not understanding each other that it takes them most of the book to overcome. And the storytelling was light, engaging, and swept me along. Good fun, and I’ll keep my eyes open for more from this author.
