Review: Go Home, Ricky! by Gene Kwak

Literary fiction. Follows a semi-pro wrestler in Nebraska whose life is, relatively speaking, good – he is pretty sure he’s about to hit the big time, he is in a solid long-term relationship, he has a decent day job as a school janitor, and he knows who he is and what he wants. This book is, more or less, about all of that falling apart, for reasons that are at least partly his own fault, and what he does about it. Combines being over the top and weird, with thoughtfulness and shrewd insight into the world, and an admittedly quite quirky look at working-class life in the midwestern US. Likely not something I would have thought to pick up of my own accord, but I am glad that someone gave it to me, and I quite enjoyed it.
